We’ve all been there—sitting at the end of a job interview, wondering if we’ve said enough if we’ve shown our best side, and most importantly, if we’re going to get the job.

Guess what? There’s one more thing you can do that almost guarantees that you’ll get the job:

Ask for it.

“But how do I do that without begging?” Here are three steps:

1. Remark on something positive in your interview experience. This could be about the company, the team, or their mission. Here are a few examples (choose one):

Company Culture: “I really enjoyed learning about the collaborative culture you’ve built here. The team’s dedication to innovation is inspiring.”

Team Dynamics: “Hearing about the team’s recent project successes was exciting. It’s clear that everyone here works well together.”

Company Mission: “I’m truly impressed by your commitment to sustainability. It’s a cause I deeply care about, and I’m excited about the possibility of being a part of that mission.”

You not only prove you were paying attention, but you’re also demonstrating your alignment with the company’s values and goals.

2. Mention something special about yourself as a candidate. Highlight what makes you a unique fit for the role. This isn’t about bragging—showcase your strengths and how they align with the job.

Skills and Experience: “With my background in digital marketing and leading successful campaigns, I’m confident I can bring a lot of value to your team.”

Unique Perspective: “My diverse experience in both sales and engineering gives me a unique perspective on understanding your clients’ needs.”

Passion and Drive: “I’m passionate about creating engaging content that resonates with the audiences you serve.”

Remind the interviewer of your qualifications and how they match the job’s requirements.

3. Just Ask. Finally, it’s time to ask for the job. The key here is to be straightforward and confident, without sounding desperate. Here are some ways to phrase it:

Direct Approach: “I hope you will select me for this role.”

Cushioned Approach: “I know you are talking to some great candidates, but none of them can claim the same experience as I have in leading projects to successful completion. I hope you choose me.”

Remember, you are NOT begging—you are expressing your genuine interest and enthusiasm for the role. So, the next time you’re in an interview, don’t be afraid to go for it! You’ve got this.
